an urban green belt / e 112th ave
the city of northglenn approached us to help design and establish a more pleasurable walking experience for pedestrians along 112th avenue. intrigued by the fact that this particular stretch borders a park, we established a softer transition using multiple varieties of native grasses to create a screen along the roadway. our main objective for establishing this screen was to provide a safety barrier for users between the park and roadway. to accomplish this we used grasses of varying height and texture in masses with small gaps in-between to provide sneak peaks into the park and create seasonal interest. to create even more separation we have also suggested the implementation of a seat wall along the curved planting strip that further separates pedestrians and the road while also providing the added function of seating.
